Queen Charlottes to Victoria
If you love nature and would like to
experience plenty of open water sailing this is your voyage!
We will start the Voyage in Sandspit with the mandatory Gwaii Haanas
orientation before setting of along the East Coast of South Moresby Island.
This coastline offers a huge variety of wilderness anchorages where we will
be able to explore the rainforests. Huge cedar trees will dominate the
scenery and rugged weather beaten coastlines. Surely we will see plenty of
totem poles as we may encounter those on our wondering through the forests.
We are planning to visit hot spring Island enroute to Ninstins a world
heritage site. This place is truly a magical experience and never to be
forgotten.
It will take us at least 2 nights out at sea crossing the open Pacific
before we will see cape Scott at the most Northern point of Vancouver
Island.
Winter Harbour will be the first of many small towns as we visit on our way
along the West Coast of Vancouver Island. Hopefully we will encounter good
Northwest winds as these are the prevailing winds this time of year. This
coastline offers spectacular anchorages and has abundant wild life including
whales. Hot springs are also enroute to Tofino. From there we sail onwards
to Barkley Sound where we will visit Ucluelet. This is the whale watching
capital along the west coast. A possible challenging sail through the very
tidal Juan the Fuca straight will finally take us to Victoria the capitol of
BC.
The inner harbour will be where we will end this adventure voyage and the
hustle and bustle of this pretty city will be a welcoming us.
