LEG 2
Lisbon to  theCanary islands
Oct 05 - Oct 19  2006     820 miles, 15days,  $ 1.900  us

Say goodbye to the beautiful city of Lisbon as we set sail for the Canary Islands.
On our port side we will be able to see  the Portuguese coastline, slowly the swells and waves will increase as we sail towards the open sea. Time and weather permitting we also may make a stop at Cabo de Sao Vincente on the the South coast of Portugal. From there we have more than 1 week of  offshore sailing ahead of us. We can now start our offshore sail training program in earnest.
This is a great opportunity to work on offshore sailing skills, safety at sea, watch keeping and other practical sailing techniques. We will also start practicing noonsight's with the sextant to determine our Latitude. After we sailed about 700 miles we should be on the lookout for Lanzarote. This is the most Northern Island  of the Canary Island group and could also be our first landfall [time permitting]. On our way  further South we are also planning to stop in Puerto del Rosario on the Island of Fuerteventura. The large and busy port of Las Palmas on Grand Canaria is our final port of destination.
