Madeira Park and Pender Harbour at a Glance

Named after the island of Madeira off Portugal’s coast, Madeira Park is a shopping and community hub on the scenic Sunshine Coast and a gateway to some of the region’s impressive natural wonders. Together with Garden Bay and Irvines Landing, the small oceanside community forms part of the Pender Harbour area and is a tangle of coves and lakes that will challenge even the best of navigators. With its cluster of banks, supermarkets and shops, Madeira Park is not only a good place to find services and amenities, it also serves as a launch point for the surrounding coastline. Daily cruises leave the area for the glacial fjord of Princess Louisa Inlet, Chatterbox Falls and the Princess Louisa Marine Provincial Park, home to British Columbia’s most stunning natural harbour. The town is also a starting place for kayaking, cruising or diving the many bays and islands of the region. Fearney Bluffs, Nelson Rock, and Anderson and Charles Islands, all popular diving locations, are accessible from Madeira Park but only by boat. Welbourne Cove, on the other hand, is a short walk away from the centre and has a marina, picnic area and cultural centre.
